Invisalign

At Creekview Dental, we are proud to offer orthodontic services, including Invisalign. Invisalign is a treatment consisting of using invisible (transparent) braces or aligners that can be removed for eating and drinking. This system has become a popular alternative to traditional metal braces because it is discreet and convenient – not to mention effective in correcting crooked or misaligned teeth. Invisalign works by gradually applying pressure to the teeth to move them into the proper position.

The aligners are customized to each patient using 3D technology, which allows you to see what the anticipated end result will look like.

Benefits of straightening your teeth with Invisalign

Discreet – one of the most notable reasons adults and older teenagers choose Invisalign is how discreet they are. The aligners are almost invisible, and unless you are very close to someone, it is unlikely they will even notice the aligners on your teeth!

Removeable – unlike metal braces, Invisalign aligners can be removed for eating, drinking, and cleaning your teeth. This means you won’t have to worry about avoiding certain foods for fear of them getting caught in your appliance. It should be noted, though, that your aligners should be worn for at least 22 hours per day to be most effective.

Easy to clean – Aligners are very easy to clean. All you have to do is use the cleaning solution and soak them for 10-15 minutes once per day to keep them free of bacteria. When necessary, you can also gently scrub the aligner with a soft toothbrush and non-scented antibacterial soap (you should not use toothpaste, as this can leave a cloudy film on the aligners).

Less frequent dental office visits – with traditional metal braces, you will require regular dental office visits to have them tightened. But with Invisalign, you will typically get trays in advance, so there is less need for frequent dental appointments. You will still need a few check-ups to ensure everything is going smoothly, but this will be less so than a patient who has metal braces.

The treatment process

Invisalign aligners are customized to each patient. Once you and your dentist have determined that Invisalign is the right treatment option for you, you will have impressions and photographs taken of your mouth to determine exactly what orthodontic issues you have and which can be used to develop your custom aligners along with your treatment plan.

The data is carefully examined and creating your first clear aligner may take a couple of weeks. When you come in to receive your aligner, your dentist will instruct you on how to use it, and you will generally get a few trays at once, so you don’t have to return for dental visits too frequently.

Each custom aligner is worn for about two weeks or according to your own unique treatment plan. If you cannot switch your aligner on time or if the new aligner doesn’t fit, let your dentist know immediately so they can help you get your treatment plan back on track.

Once you are finished with your last tray, and you have achieved the beautiful straight teeth you have dreamt of, your dentist will provide you with a custom retainer to be worn at night to help prevent your teeth from shifting back into their previous positions. Wear your retainer as your dentist instructed to protect your investment and be sure to keep up a healthy oral care routine with regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups.
